Our ChicagoNorth Hub program included a partnership between 4th graders at the Muslim Community Center Fulltime School (MCC Academy) and Sacred Heart Schools. Our Chicago Hub program was a partnership between Chicago Jewish Day School (4th graders) and Sacred Heart Schools (4th graders). Both hubs had a field trip so they could experience all three faiths. A combined Interfaith Community Evening took place at MCC in March 2015.
2013-2014 included our largest single program ever–a Northern Suburbs Hub partnership between 4th graders at the Muslim Community Center Fulltime School (MCC), Solomon Schechter Jewish Day School and Sacred Heart Schools, as well as a Chicago Hub partnership program between Chicago Jewish Day School and Sacred Heart Schools. All four schools came together as part of our Interfaith Community Evening on Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
We created our different Poetry Pals programs, involving more than 400 kids and 2 Muslim, 2 Jewish and 2 Catholic schools. We celebrated program completion in two separate Interfaith Community Evenings.
In 2011-2012 we began new programs as part of our Northern Suburbs and Chicago hubs, with partnerships between Solomon Schechter Day School, Muslim Community Center Fulltime School (MCC), Sacred Heart Schools and the Islamic Community Center of Illinois (ICCI). Islamic Foundation School and St. Pius X: The 4th and 5th Graders from these schools have met during the last three years, and their poetry has been published in two booklets and printed on posters that now hang in the schools. In 2009, student Charlie Mahay from St. Pius and poet-educator Adam Shames were interviewed on Different Drummers. Other video highlights here.
KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation and City of Faith Church: Young members of the synagogue and church met and through poetry and art developed new friendships. The students also created a quilt that hangs at KAM. This program was co-sponsored by Changing Worlds.
Diamond Lake School: Bilingual Spanish and regular English classes met to share poetry and music.
